A site selection at 750 Centerpointe Drive @ West Walker Street was chosen as a Dog Park for League City. League City Council had approved and funded the Dog Park in October 2008.  The funding comes from a Dedicated Park Fund of Non-Tax Payers Dollars that is funded by fees paid by land developers.  League City Council voted to pull the funding in July 2009.

The League City (Advisory) Parks Board voted in favor for the Centerpointe location, League City Parks Staff and Director of Parks all supported the location and recommended its approval and City Council still killed the project after it had been approved and funded 8.5 months earlier.

$194,178.00 was originally approved by League City Council to be spent in the creation of the Dog Park had already spent $15,000.00. This money was used to prepare the land for the Dog Park, by clearing the land of shrubs and tallow trees leaving more than 50 mature trees including pines, oaks, & magnolias.  This 8 Acre trapezoid shape piece of land sits in a location that has no other useful purpose other than some type of park.  It is bordered on two sides by detention ponds, a third side right of way for the High Power Transit Corridor, and the forth side by West Walker Street.

For the Business owners: A Dog Park in your community will attract people from other parts of League City, who may not otherwise visit this part of city and outside League City who will purchase food, drinks, and pickup gas for the journey to or leaving the Dog Park.  It will also showcase your community that it supports all members of a family, canine and human alike.

Park Ordinance 2006-100 To clarify where the money is coming from for the development of the Dog Park, please reference the Park Ordinance 2006-100 Section 102-55 Park Dedication Fees:  It has been rumored that the funds are tax payer dollars, when in-fact they are fees paid by developers. (a) "The city shall require payment of a monetary park dedication fee to the city so that it may, from time to time, use such funds to purchase and or improve parks in or near an area of actual or potential development as well as the development of park facilities and improvements on such lands. These are NOT League City Resident's Tax Payer Dollars!
